Reanimation

Does anyone remember the awful movie, Reanimator? Well there's a real life reanimation project taking place... Interesting and kind of creepy.

I actually had the "pleasure" of witnessing a partial autopsy once. I can understand how scientists and medical professionals become psychologically removed from death. When you look at the human body as a sort of machine, as a mechanic would look at your car, you create a disassociation between human spirit and human biology. That's the psychic formula that creates an amicable environment for projects such as this.

If there was the possibility of resuscitating an accident victim or a victim of a crime, would you support the use of reanimation? Or do you believe that death should not be tampered with? There's a lot of superstition surrounding death, so I understand a healthy dose of heeby-jeebies.

Happy Solstice!!

I have been writing short stories this evening and completely spaced that today is the longest day of the year. Now when will I find time to do my naked pagan dance (rolling her eyes). I have already been prepping the garden and decorating the house with token symbols of summer - bits of wheat, flashes of red and gold flowers, apple scented candles. I love the heat and passion of the summer months.

Writing short stories has given me the discipline to also work on the ongoing novel. I have a feeling I will be one of those sweeping decades style novelists, and am trying to not be discouraged with the lack of direction the novel is taking. With poetry, there is room to use imagination to fill in the gaps, whereas with novels, even the most Faulkner-esque work needs some basic elements akin to works of fiction.

In any event, I am loving the song writing and the short stories. I will share soon.

Happy solstice. Tell me what you did to celebrate, pagan friends.

Don't cry for the horses if you're still eating beef

Ever since the Bureau of Land Management got the okay to remove and have slaughtered wild horses in Montana (thanks to the Burns Amendment), I have been posting updates here about the issues.

What I am surprised by, despite the emotional tidalwave of response to the tragedy, is the reluctance of self-declared, outraged horse lovers to stop eating beef.

There's no doubt that the sole reason for the relocation and slaughter of wild horses and burros today is that they directly compete with grazing livestock, primarily cattle. Conrad Burns, the culprit behind the pernicious amendment, is a puppet for the cattlemen, and no one has doubted this from the beginning.

Yet despite the direct correlation between horse slaughter and cattle grazing, so many horse advocates remain frightened or angered by the mere mention of a beef boycott.

The only people who have volunteered to boycott beef are vegetarians, a small portion of the population who do not contribute to the profits of the beef industry anyway.

Come on! Would it kill you to stop eating beef for the time being? As far as I'm concerned, if you are against wild horse slaughter and are still eating beef, you might as well give up now.

And wild buffalo are also affected by the greed of cattlemen...go here for more information.

Misery Loves Company

I was looking at the past few posts and realized what a negative space I have been in. Apologies. It is a stressful time - too much going on and not enough time to attend to relationships and joy. I will regroup and come back with something fresh next Monday.

Happy weekend.

Digging the Coolness, See

My talented buddy, Jim Grant, has asked me to pen some lyrics for a song collaboration. This is SO MUCH FUN. I have never written song lyrics before, so it's a good creative exercise...and did I mention FUN?

Stay tuned for some original songs.

Have a great weekend!

Oops I Did It Again

Okay, my apologies for the awful title of this post; just couldn't help myself.

I'm mired in a project that, for lack of better words, has been one of the most challenging projects of my life. Not because of the workload involved, but because I am being faced with one of my fears: confrontation.

As project manager, I am going to have to air my concerns about some lackluster performances, efforts by some key players. To put it bluntly, some people's efforts are sub par. I feel really evil saying that, but it's my honest opinion, and being in a situation where you are called upon to give an honest assessment, what else can you do?

Part of the problem is the subjectivity involved. I have to take ownership of my beliefs and act on them. Regardless of the diplomatic way in which I plan to move forward, feelings will be hurt, people angered.

A huge step for me at this point in my life is learning to live with other people's anger. I can safely let others be angry without guilt or trepidation.

I can give them back their anger.

Stupid Things That Annoy Me

Is anyone else kind of irritated that Jack White married a model? Guess those who can will. Even the supposed uber fringe guys. Grumble....

Bumps in the night, being alone, falling....

I am doing some research on Fear and would like to hear back from you - What do you fear and why? You can list more than one fear. There's no wrong answer(s) obviously.

Thanks!
