girl and crow

girl and crow

things have not been the same
since the shine of black feathers
reached into her. this is where
the world began: his swallowing
the cobalt ocean. men come
to her parents' home. none tell
stories that dance against the fire.
with a jawbone, he turns the sky.
not an angel comes close
to the jet stone she keeps
hidden in the fabric of her dress.
at night, they become nebulae.
what suitor can possess her
after such a flight? her father
warms the room with an ember.
her mother, holding down
the bed, watches her girl
call out for the crow, her
revealer, his vanishing.
