A cultural approach to animal husbandry

One thing is certain, China definitely needs to take a look at their animal husbandry practices.

Mystery illness kills 17 Chinese farmers

North America is far from perfect, but these potentially pandemic diseases continue to spring from China. At the same time, China has one of the absolute worst records for poaching and trade in wild animal parts.

With a large population and commercialization on the rise, something has got to give.

Bad Boys and Blues Bands

A lot of my writing is influenced by the characters I have met on the road, or in some cases, icons of country and rock music. The icons generally come into play when I am taking a break from painting sordid pictures of people I know, or when I have another vivid dream about Chris Isaak. He shows up in my dreams a lot. Mainly because he is the specimen of "All American Boy," hence the song. He knows it. So do I.

Anyway, the Badlands collection is nearly done, and I like the direction it's taken. I have shared some of the poems here ... but will soon be putting it all into a book form and trying my hand at self-publishing. Why not? They have been locked in my head too long I say. Revolt! :-)

I will post a link to the book publisher when the time comes. Of course, if you show up, I will deny it's really you. Don't look for what you don't want to find. (wink)

Poems, we got your poems

I need to post some new work soon - I have been a mad writer as of late. The hot weather seems to energize me, strangely, and makes me itchy for new projects. Not that I don't have my share.

The song writing thing is VERY challenging. It's really tough to divorce myself from the type of writing I am used to and compose a traditionally popular song - as in POP song. Part of the problem is that I know there are too many kick ass songwriters out there who manage to make a living and remain above the baseline of inane fluff. On the other hand, the amount of money to be made writing the inane fluff greatly exceeds the opps for intelligent lyrics/music.

We shall see what I can do.

Now I will leave you to go and listen to the inspirational sounds of Phil Collins and Lionel Ritchie. Blat!

Clothing Exchange Idea

I have been Freecycling for a while now, and for the most part, think it's a great program. The one drawback for me has been the fact that there are people who sit on top of the message board like vultures, and they are the first to claim anything and everything. I also feel like there are some people using Freecycle to find stuff to sell, which is a misuse of the program.

Since I always give away really nice clothing, my thinking is this: Why not host a women's clothing swap in TO. I can do the facilitation via web and organize clothing exchanges once a month. That way, everyone wins and everyone also contributes.

Are there any readers in the GTA who thinks this is something worth looking in to? For now, it will be women-only.

Cheers!

Moving, moving, moving - Rawhide!

Okay, the rawhide song is stuck in the grey matter and will not leave - But what a motivator!

We are in the midst of moving to a very cool new office, so I am not posting ala philosophy or deep issues of meaning until I get out from under dusty boxes and paint cans. Deja vu!

Anyway, I will post some pics of the new place next week. It's right downtown, close to posh Yorkville. We are oddly out of place, but are hoping the retail scene will bring in some more business - slightly different projects.

Have a great holiday, everyone!!
